Winter is Coming

As winter quickly approaches here in the Northern Hemisphere, Kit Robinson has got you covered. She continues her popular series on landscape quilts in our November/December 2017 issue with Stitching Winter Scenes.

Look at the detailed stitching and subtle palette employed by Sheena Norquay in After the Snowfall. Or how about the painterly quality of Winter Quiet by Jeanine Maloney? I love the small bursts of color in this piece. The abstract nature of snow and ice is captured artfully by Judy Warner in Ice Flow. They’re all beautiful, but my personal favorite is What Lies Beneath by Sandra Meech. Sandra incorporated photographs, line drawings, and machine stitching to create this striking piece. And these are just the tip of the iceberg (sorry, I couldn’t resist)! Be sure to check out the November/December 2017 issue for details on the creation of these quilts, as well as other beautiful wintery scenes and so much more.

I admire the many techniques and styles our artists used to depict the beauty of a season that’s often difficult to capture.
