Kelly Young, of My Quilt Infatuation, invited us to take a peek into her Germantown, TN studio. Let’s take a tour
Where is your studio located (room in your house, basement, separate studio space, etc)?
My studio is a converted dining room, so it is right in the front of the house with lots of light. I even still use my dining room table as an extension table. My dining room has two separate, standard width doorways, rather than wide-open archways. The fact that my dining room is more closed off than the rest of the downstairs is something I didn’t like about my house when we bought it, but I love it now, because it keeps my studio just private enough, while still being downstairs with my family.
What is your favorite part of your studio?
I love the glass apothecary jars that hold my scraps. They are arranged in rainbow order, and are directly across from my sewing machine. Though the jars hold more than they appear to, they help me keep my scraps to a manageable level. I know that when they start getting full, it’s time to tackle them before they get out of hand.
What would you like to do to your studio if you had a chance?
I would love to extend my design wall to the floor behind my machine. Because there is a chair rail there, it will take a little creativity, but I know it will be helpful to get it done someday.
Because my studio gets a lot of light, my stash is behind this door so it doesn’t fade from sunlight. The drawers are for storing fabric pulls specifically for projects I’m working on.
Thanks for taking us on a tour of your studio, Kelly! To see more of Kelly’s work, check out her website at http://www.myquiltinfatuation.com/.
